Open to LC/King's Students and Staff only

Lev Tolstoy (1828-1910) is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential authors of all time. Tolstoy’s pacifist beliefs and theory of non-violent resistance to evil are well-known. What is much less well-known are Tolstoy's ideas on violence as a social practice, which were complex and highly sophisticated. We are privileged that Professor Andrei Zorin, who has been Professor and Chair of Russian at Oxford University since 2004, has agreed to speak to us on this theme, which he will illustrate by reference both to Tolstoy's creative work (including War and Peace,1867) and to his essays (e.g.The Kingdom of God Is Within You, 1895), diaries and correspondence.

Please, register by 6pm, 4th of November, indicating your preferred option – on campus or online. Please, note, the number of places is limited and will be offered on the first come first served basis.
