Prof Miles Berry explores the integration of AI in teacher education, emphasising the necessity for new teachers to navigate and leverage AI in the evolving educational landscape.

The session addresses the historical context of technology in education and the unaltered core of teaching—knowledge transmission, skill development, and character formation. It highlights the critical update needed in Teachers' Standards to include technology and AI, underscoring the role of teacher education programs in preparing educators for an AI-inclusive future. Practical applications of AI in reducing administrative burdens, enhancing lesson planning, and maintaining academic integrity are discussed alongside the importance of critical engagement with AI-generated content. The talk advocates for fostering digital literacy and ethical considerations among students, preparing them for a world increasingly influenced by AI.

Berry's insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by generative AI in education aim to equip educators with the confidence and skills to effectively integrate AI into teaching practices, ensuring they contribute to the development of well-rounded, digitally literate students. This comprehensive approach seeks to inspire educators to embrace AI as a tool for enhancing educational outcomes and fostering an environment of continuous learning and adaptability.
