We will be discussing the pedagogic value of the video essay but it will certainly be an opportunity to explore the interest to researchers of film, television and media also - Professor Gibbs can talk from both perspectives.
During the session, we will be showing at least one of the video essays that were recently produced for Tom Brown's semester 1 third year critical option, "Film Style, Criticism and Interpretation". Students produced these video essays without any departmental provision of editing equipment or software. We will be reflecting on our experiences marking this kind of assessment (importantly, these assignment \s typically include a reflective written element) and on student and academic experiences of producing audio-visual essays.
This event is free, and intended for staff and PhD students at King's.
