A classic of Italian neo-realism, this film deals with the increasing isolation and financial worries of its older protagonist (and his faithful dog Flike). Like De Sica’s earlier The Bicycle Thieves, the audience follows the everyday struggles of Umberto D. and those around him in a film that is ultimately meditative and moving.

Part of the Getting Older Film Club, for more information go to the SAACY events webpage.
