What if it comes back? Assessment and management of fears in cancer recurrence - 10 December 2019

Please note that this event has passed.

Dr Gozde Ozakinci is a Senior Lecturer and Health Psychologist at the School of Medicine, University of St Andrews. She is conducting applied research to help inform psychological support programmes for behaviour change and emotional support.

In this seminar, Dr Gozde will tell you about the fast growing literature on fears of cancer recurrence. Initially thought as a niche area of research, the last 10 years in particular has seen an increase in this domain that affects many people who have been diagnosed and living beyond cancer. Importantly, for some, it has negative psychological and quality of life consequences and can be potentially linked to health care use and health behaviours.

Dr Gozde will focus on the latest evidence on how we assess fears of cancer recurrence and the types of interventions that have been developed and tested both in the UK and elsewhere. Dr Gozde will also pinpoint areas that we know less about to identify areas for collaboration and research focus.

Chaired By: Dr Lyndsay Hughes, Lecturer in Health Psychology
