About the role:

The Fabric Technician is responsible for completing reactive fabric maintenance and planned preventative fabric maintenance within SLA across the Estate, ensuring adherence to operational, regulatory and compliance requirements including minimising the risk of environmental impact and following Health and Safety processes.  

This role will mainly involve carpentry tasks, but it will also include completing PPMs such as fire door inspections. 

The Fabric Technician will liaise with specialist contractors and other building dedicated engineers to maintain high quality service delivery. The Fabric Technician will ensure teams and clients (where applicable) are kept up to date on progress.

Tasks  including but not limited to:

  • To carry out planned and reactive fabric maintenance as directed and within SLA.
  • To ensure all tasks are completed to a high standard, cost effective and maintained regularly and completed in a safe manner.
  • Take specific responsibility for the maintenance and operation of the site’s fabric services.
  • Maintain a safe systems of work process and periodically update as may be required, ensure risk assessments are adhered to and registers are checked.
  • Conduct fault finding across all areas of Engineering responsibility.
  • Collaborate with Campus Operations and other teams with regards to projects.
  • Conduct fault finding across all engineering infrastructures.
  • Deal responsibly with emergencies and breakdowns
  • Comply with all statutory, company and client specific environmental, health, safety and quality standards applicable to the college environment.
  • Complete paperwork and comments for/on the CAFM system to a high standard
  • You will be expected to deliver a high level of customer focused service and participate in training when required e.g. Fit for King’s
  • Required to participate in a rostered 24 hour on-call system providing emergency service during non-working hours, at weekends and bank holidays.
  • To undertake training and qualify as Authorised / Responsible / Competent Person as required.
  • To undertake such other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required within the Department.

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Carpentry qualification and time served fabric experience in a maintenance background

2.      Strong, demonstrable competencies in building services trades

3.      Good understanding and experience of meeting health and safety obligations regarding maintenance activities

4.      Good communicator including good verbal communication

5.      Ability to work from an iPad to manage work through our CAFM system and IT literate (Excel, Teams and other Microsoft packages)

6.      Team player and flexible attitude, pay attention to detail and strong problem solving skills

7.      Excellent customer service skills with the ability to offer guidance on requests

8.      Ability to use, repair and maintain tools

2.      City & Guilds / apprenticeship in a relevant discipline
