The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) is based in the heart of central and south London. It includes the Cicely Saunders Institute for Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation, the premier Institute for Palliative Care, bringing together clinical, research and education teams.

Our applied clinical and health multidisciplinary research transforms therapies, the healthcare experience and outcomes for patients and those important to them, wherever they are cared for. Our award-winning NMPC education programmes span pre-registration nursing and midwifery, and multidisciplinary post-graduate taught and research programmes.

About the role

We are looking for a Research Associate with an experience in mixed methodologies and critical care trials. The successful candidate will be responsible for project set-up, conduct of interviews (remotely via Teams) with clinical staff and patients as well as data analysis. This project focusses on process evaluation of four large critical care randomised controlled trials funded by the NIHR as well as set up of a new trial of critical recovery.

This is a part time post (17.5 hours per week), and you will be offered a 12 month fixed term contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. PhD qualified in relevant subject area *
  2. Ability to work well as an effective member of teams and networks and to share and encourage good practice in teaching and research and to inspire and motivate others, including in challenging environments
  3. Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills, in all formats, face to face, presentation, email, reports, written and for teaching
  4. Excellent administrative and organisational skills, underpinned by strong interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness, able to deliver high quality work and projects to deadlines, work efficiently and prioritise appropriately, and take individual responsibility for planning and undertaking work, with Knowledge of education methods and approaches, including emerging digital learning
  5. Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students
  6. Commitment to innovation and student learning in education, to support student welfare, and enabling students’ personal and professional development, and providing academic advice and pastoral support
  7. Experience in qualitative research methods 

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
