The UK Dementia Research Institute (DRI) centre is comprised of 7 groups and is embedded within the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience at King’s College London (www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/depts/bcn/dri/lab-groups).

The DRI is a national consortium focused on cutting-edge dementia research funded by the Medical Research Council. 

About the role

A new position is available for an experienced Research Assistant in the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) research group led by Professor Jernej Ule.

Professor Jernej Ule is seeking an organised and enthusiastic individual for a full-time position to support their research on dynamics of ribonucleoprotein complexes (RNP) that assemble on the 3  UTRs of neuronal mRNAs .

The Ule group focuses on mechanisms of RNP assembly, as part of a project funded by the Wellcome Trust.

The post holder will contribute to the project by studying transcriptomic data to assess interactions and roles of RNA-binding proteins that bind introns and developing the work towards relevant publications.

The post-holder will also provide support to bioinformatic analyses and data management.

The successful candidate should have experience with analysing genomic data, be willing to work as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative. 

You will be a dynamic, creative, and motivated scientist interested in pursuing questions deeply.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team on the Denmark Hill Campus.

Some of the key skills involved include;

  • Processing sequencing data and undertaking quality control
  •  Integrative analysis and management of transcriptional data
  • Manage the ordering of laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Liaising with other technical staff to service and maintain stocks and equipment
  •  Maintaining records of computational code development on github
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by Professor Jernej Ule

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered  a fixed term contract until 30 September 2026.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

**Essential criteria **

  1. MSc/MSci  in Genomics or related discipline awarded (or near thesis submission which can be evidenced via application and at interview)
  2. Experience in genomics and transcriptomics
  3. Experience in bioinformatics
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  5.  Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience with transcriptomic data to investigate protein-RNA interactions
  2. Experience with analysis of RNA regulation
