About us

This role sits within King’s Digital, an innovative and collaborative team driving the development of online education at King’s College London. In partnership with academics, professional services, and external collaborators, King’s Digital designs, develops, and delivers a diverse range of educational programmes aligned with the university’s Education Strategy.

Although based within King’s Digital, the role works in close collaboration with the Digital Education directorate in IT. This directorate plays a key role in advancing the university’s digital education ambitions, with a focus on core systems, innovation, digital skills, and agile delivery.

Through this partnership, you’ll contribute directly to the enhancement of the platforms and environments that support online and blended learning across King’s College London. At the same time, you’ll benefit from being part of a creative and experienced team of designers and researchers within King’s Digital, working at the intersection of user experience, technology, and education.

The role is primarily based at King’s Waterloo campus (James Clerk Maxwell Building), with flexibility to work remotely as part of King’s hybrid working model.

 About the role

This position sits within the User Experience team in King’s Digital and works in close collaboration with the Digital Education directorate to enhance the platforms and environments that shape the learning experience at King’s College London. The role is focused on improving the virtual learning environment that supports our online and blended courses, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of students and educators alike.

As a Product Designer, you will play a key role in shaping how learners interact with our digital platforms. Working closely with Learning Technologists, fellow Product Designers, and UX Researchers, you’ll use insights from user research to design experiences that are not only visually cohesive and intuitive but also effective.

You’ll bring a strong passion for UX research and design, applying a deep understanding of learner needs—grounded in data and research—to inform decisions that enhance engagement, satisfaction, and success. Your work will directly contribute to creating meaningful, accessible, and impactful learning experiences—helping to define the future of digital education at King’s.

Your day-to-day role will include, but is not limited to:

•       Champion user-centred and learning experience design, advocating for solutions that enhance how students engage with King’s digital learning platforms.

•       Collaborate across King’s Digital and the Digital Education directorate, aligning design efforts with shared goals and contributing to the enhancement of online and blended learning environments.

•       Engage with the wider institutional Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) community and faculty representatives to gather insights, co-create solutions, and ensure designs meet the needs of diverse learners and educators.

•       Lead and support UX and LX research, using insights to inform design decisions, evaluate impact, and continuously improve the student experience.

•       Use contemporary design and collaboration tools (e.g. Figma, Miro, Maze, UserBrain, EnjoyHQ) to communicate ideas, iterate designs, and gather feedback.

•       Contribute to product roadmaps and design strategy, helping prioritise the team’s backlog and aligning deliverables with broader innovation goals.

•       Promote best practices in UX, UI, and interaction design, including the use of design systems, prototyping, and user testing.

•       Communicate clearly and effectively with technical teams, academic stakeholders, and peers, both visually and verbally.

•       Foster communities of practice around UX and LX design, promoting consistent, high-quality experiences and encouraging institution-wide adoption of user-centred approaches.

This is a fixed-time role – 100% full time equivalent, and you will be offered a 2-year contract.
