The IoPPN’s clinical psychology training programme takes CBT as its main therapeutic modality, and family therapy/systemic practice as the second key modality. An important strength is the very comprehensive range of both local and national specialist placement opportunities, across three world-renowned NHS Trusts: South London and Maudsley, King’s College Hospital and Guy’s & St Thomas’ – known collectively as King’s Health Partners. The programme, in partnership with King’s Health Partners NHS Trusts, aims to train clinical psychologists who embody the scientist-practitioner ideal and who can go on to become effective NHS leaders. About the role:

The Systemic Tutor will work as part of the DClinPsy Programme team supporting the academic and clinical requirements of the systemic Foundation and Intermediate (AFT) pathways. The programme is accredited for all DClinPsy trainees at Foundation level and for a subset of trainees at Intermediate level, who choose to follow this pathway in their final year.

The post-holder will report to the DClinPsy Systemic Lead and work closely to ensure that AFT standards for the pathway are being met. We are keen for someone with experience and interest in teaching and training to join us as part of the systemic team on the Programme.

The post holder will have a core role in contributing to the systemic teaching on the DClinPsy Programme and the KCL Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy Course. There are some joint sessions which are delivered to both groups of students.  The postholder will also contribute to the setting and assessments of trainees’ systemic knowledge and competences in line with AFT standards.

The postholder will contribute to teaching on Fridays (the main Foundation teaching day on the DClinPsy programme and some of these sessions will be delivered jointly to Family Therapy trainees) and on Wednesdays (to a group of trainees on the KCL Family Therapy Graduate Certificate Course and DClinPsy trainees who have elected the intermediate pathway). The 0.2 WTE hours will therefore be required to work 0.1 session on a Wednesday morning and another 0.1 session on a Friday (morning or afternoon).

The post-holder will work closely with other DClinPsy programme team members including clinical tutors to help support specialist systemic placements across adult and child services, and to staff from the Section of Family Therapy. They may be asked to provide extra support and advice where the placement supervisor is not systemically-trained or when Family Therapist/s are not part of the supervisory placement team.

This is a part time post (7 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30/09/2027. As the role is part time, the salary displayed in this advert will be amended accordingly (pro rata).

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Accreditation as a Family Therapist with a Qualification in systemic theory and practice or systemic psychotherapy  
2. Skills and experience in providing systemic teaching and training 
3. Clinical experience in the UK NHS providing systemic and family therapy in the child and/or adult mental health and/or community health teams 
4. Strong commitment to supporting equality, diversity and inclusion.
5. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with trainees and with university and placement provider staff 
6. Ability to liaise effectively with multiple stakeholders
7. Knowledge of the AFT accreditation requirements for individuals and training programmes.

Desirable criteria

1. AFT accreditation as a systemic supervisor
2. Experience of contributing to DClinPsy training/supervision or Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy course or other professional training in the UK involving systemic module
