The Facilities Management Safety and Compliance team leads and manages the provision of health and safety, assurance, compliance and high-level advice to positively influence the health and safety culture and strategy of the directorate to ensure that the directorate meets its legal, statutory compliance obligations and that the quality standards of the university are met. 

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Compliance Support Manager (Asbestos) to support the asbestos safety management work of the Safety & Compliance department. Reporting into the Technical Manager (Asbestos) the post holder’s main function will be to provide high-level professional advice, assurance and assistance on the management of asbestos, and work in collaboration with the wider team to support the E&F Directorate in relation to safety and compliance functions.

Planning: support the review and improvement of the Asbestos Management Plans, Estates & Facilities arrangements for asbestos management, continual development and utilisation of the electronic registers, delivery of bespoke awareness training regime, planning for re-inspections, implementation of the direction and scope set for university’s asbestos management programme.

Do: support management reviews (to include physical and desktop inspections), provision of asbestos management advice to members of staff, students & King’s contractors; attend and act as facilitator (if required) for the Asbestos Risk Management Group; conduct audits and inspections and carry out incident investigations; develop, maintain and monitor as necessary, general standard specification for works to advice on asbestos management solutions; ensure that all labels or warning signage are in place and replace where damaged or removed.

Check: support monitoring and report of the status of significant findings of asbestos surveys and risk assessments, completion of routine periodic tasks and inspections, audit contract KPIs etc, activities undertaken by Estates & Facilities and the university’s consultants and contractors to ensure they are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the applicable legislation and university policies and procedures.

Act: Review regulatory changes and current standards of good practice in collaboration and support in incorporating into university and directorate arrangements; review and improvement planning to feedback into the Asbestos Management Plan, support preparation of annual reports.

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: 

Essential criteria

1.      BOHS P402 or equivalent for asbestos surveying

2.      BOHS P403 and P404 or equivalent for asbestos air monitoring and clearance

3.      IOSH Managing Safety Level 2 or equivalent

4.      Thorough knowledge of current legislation in asbestos management and survey techniques

5.      Experience of operating or working with asbestos management systems and keeping asbestos registers

6.      A proven track record of successful project management preferably within the asbestos remediation and management sector

7.      Excellent communication skills both oral and written, including an ability to write technical and non-technical papers including survey reports as required

8.      Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office and particularly Microsoft Excel

Desirable criteria

9.      Membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. FAAM

10.  BOHS P405 or equivalent for asbestos management

11.  Experience of working within the Higher Education sector or as consultants to Higher Education / NHS Trusts

12.  NEBOSH National General certificate, or equivalent
