About the role 

King’s Summer Programmes is a specialist creative business development unit that designs, develops and delivers open enrolment and bespoke seasonal international education programmes in line with King’s Education Strategy.

Its portfolio includes flagship undergraduate and pre-university summer schools, customised undergraduate and postgraduate student programming for international partners, short courses and overseas programmes offered in face-to-face, blended and online modalities.  

The Student Experience Manager is responsible for the delivery of the Undergraduate and Pre-University Summer School, on campus and internationally.  Reporting to the Deputy Head of Operations (DHoO), they will identify, develop and implement new processes for enhancing student engagement and experience across the summer portfolio, mapping out and implementing a calendar of work across the year that brings real service impact. The postholder will act as a Designated Safeguarding Officer and manage a team of seasonal support staff responsible for the supervision and safeguarding of international students under 18 attending the pre-university summer courses.

This is a busy and varied role, that requires prioritising and progressing multiple projects towards deadlines and an ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure. The successful candidate will ideally have demonstrable experience in a customer-facing role focusing on engagement and delivery of new initiatives, inspiring line management, as well as broad experience of meeting challenges in higher educational context. Working across a matrix organisational structure, they will have strong communication skills and the ability to influence, negotiate and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. With practiced organisational and problem-solving skills, they will enjoy bringing new ideas and creative approaches to student support and engagement.

The role involves a dynamic and varying workload throughout the year with the postholder encountering the busiest periods for Summer Programmes from June to August when they will be expected to be present on campus in London every working day.

The role is primarily office-based at King’s Strand Campus although candidates may be required to travel for meetings and between campuses. The candidate should also be prepared to attend events in the evening/at weekends and reside in the accommodation during the delivery of the Pre-university Summer School in July. International travel may be required as some programmes are developed and delivered outside the UK. As part of King’s trial of hybrid working, all team members are currently permitted to work remotely for part of the week when programmes are not running.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate and distribute information clearly 
  2. Significant experience in a management role in an education or events management organisation 
  3. Evidence in managing or coordinating projects, activities and events on time and within budget. 
  4. Proven ability to build trust and rapport with different groups both internally and externally, establishing healthy communication and collaboration channels 
  5. Significant experience of administration in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders 
  6. Ability to develop a team both as leader and member to inspire team to deliver high-quality output against ambitious targets 
  7. Ability to show initiative and take decisions on routine matters, exercising judgment on when to refer issues to senior management
  8. Sound knowledge and experience in using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams)

Desirable criteria

  1. Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policy and procedures for under 18s 
  2. Experience in working in a school, HE or FE institution
  3. Experience in project and processes management
  4. Experience in using an HE admissions system (e.g. MySelection) and/ or online learning system (e.g. Moodle)
  5. Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
