About the role

We are looking for a Business Operations Manager to manage key operational functions across the Cluster.  

In collaboration with the Head of Cluster Operations and the Senior Cluster Manager, the Business Operations Manager will oversee the administration of the Cluster’s operational portfolio, which involves coordinating and managing dependencies across the Cluster’s five departments; CMCI, DDH, Music, Film Studies and KDL.  

The role will involve providing strategic, financial, and resource support to the Department Heads, while also leading a team of business operations staff.

The Business Operations Manager will ensure that the Business Operations team is well-trained, appropriately allocated to the various duties, and motivated to perform at a high level, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and proactive problem-solving.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills which are crucial for fostering and maintaining productive relationships across the 5 departments and team.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: 

Essential criteria

  1. Substantial experience of administration and process/task management across at least a substantial subset of the range of the business operations areas detailed in the role profile (finance, HR, health & safety, resource/space management), preferably within the Higher Education context. 
  2. Substantial experience of timely and efficient process / task delivery, as well as an aptitude for identifying and implementing potential improvements to the benefit of all stakeholders
  3. Excellent communication skills, with a high standard of English, and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people in a professional and assured manner 
  4. Strong proactive, methodical, flexible approach with excellent attention to detail and accuracy 
  5. Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities in a busy, pressured work environment

Desirable criteria

  1. Awareness of financial policies and procedures, with experience of managing implementation of these (desirable) 
  2. Awareness of current health and safety legislation for an office environment, with experience of managing implementation of these (desirable)
  3. Experience of or demonstrable aptitude for line management, with a sound understanding of inclusive management practices and a commitment to EDI
