The Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences (FoDOCS) at King’s College London is currently the largest dental teaching establishment in Europe and currently ranked in the top 5 schools internationally. The Institute is committed to the translation of laboratory-based research into clinical practice with its uniquely large fusion of basic scientists and clinicians. Orthodontics at FoDOCS is based at Guy’s Hospital (Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust), King’s College Hospital (King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust) and Queen Mary Hospital Sidcup. 

About the role 

This is a 4 year fixed-term dentist in training clinical lecturer post in orthodontics at ST4-5 level. The successful applicant will spend 6 sessions undertaking clinical training at ST4-5 level based at King’s College Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital Sidcup; and 4 sessions of research based at FoDOCS (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital). Clinical training will provide experience in multidisciplinary care at ST4-5 level, including orthodontic-surgical and orthodontic-restorative care with some experience of cleft care. The post will provide training to sit the ISFE examination in orthodontics. The post will also provide the opportunity to supervise MSc in orthodontics postgraduate students in the clinical and research environments, and provide didactic teaching to postgraduate and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a research protocol and register for a part-time PhD at King’s College London.

This is a full time (40 hours per week), and you will be offered an a 4-year fixed term contract until September 2029.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Full registration with the GDC
  2. Membership in Orthodontics
  3. GDC Specialist List in Orthodontics from October 2025

Desirable criteria

  1. Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery
  2. Evidence of DFT and DCT training prior to specialization
