The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) comprises Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics – all departments highly rated in research activities and a wide-ranging portfolio of education programmes. Recently re-founded, the Department of Engineering is rapidly expanding into a world-class research and teaching department. Research currently focuses on robotics, telecommunications and biomedical engineering, but we are looking to establish new research themes.
About the role:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the field of energy storage for renewable power generation system. The candidate will play a central role in delivering a two-year research project focused on developing a high-efficiency, lightweight Smart Battery Management System (BMS) for renewable energy storage applications. The candidate will lead the design and simulation of GaN-FET-based power architectures, implement power-signal data modulation (PSDM) techniques to reduce wiring complexity, and optimise signal demodulation algorithms for accurate, real-time battery monitoring.
The position will be based in the Department of Engineering, King’s College London on the Strand Campus in the heart of central London.
Key Responsibilities:
• Write technical reports closely related to battery management system.
• Present research findings in regular project meetings with the German industry partner.
• Fulfil the project objectives on battery management system with application to renewable energy storage.
The position is full time and you will be offered a fixed-term contract for 2-years.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- A PhD or MSc with 10+ industry experience in a closely related field focused on electronics, or battery technology.
- A background in electronics and battery technology
- A track record of project management skills
Desirable criteria
- Good industry training skills, e.g. train the trainer.

Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
