Welcome to a payroll and pensions advertisement, this function sits within Finance and we responsible for payroll all kings’ employees, there are approximately 10,000 + staff currently

This role is looking for a high precision of payroll quality and to deliver a service that collaborates with the payroll administrators and the wider finance community

We are situated at Lavington street with most of the professional service staff.

About the role:

The role of Senior payroll Technician is to ensure the provision of a high-quality payroll service, the postholder will support the Team Leaders technically and during their periods of absences, processing overpayments across the Payroll function liaising with the Deputy Payroll Manager, and communicating with the individuals impacted.

The role holder will be supporting the Deputy Payroll Manager with other tasks that need addressing urgently, developing skills across the function.  Supervision of the Occasional payroll and 2 team members. 

This role is unique as it cuts across most parts of the payroll and pensions function

The role holder must support to create better processes that can enhance the modernisation of payroll and provide visual demonstrations of this to train others in the team, they must be open to shadowing and upskilling lower grades

The role holder will form and maintain strong working relationships across Finance, HR & other areas of the university, they will be required to visit other campus to maintain relationships and ensure a high standard of customer service

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Strong understanding of payroll processes, taxation and National Insurance regulations including statutory reporting requirements processes and procedures

2.      AP/I Excellent organizational and time management skills

3.      Knowledge of University Pension Schemes

4.      Basic understanding of employment law

5.      Customer service skills and a service approach in your professional work

6.      Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the written word, in person and on the telephone

7.      Numerate and IT literate with the ability to use the standard suite of office software together with knowledge of one or more corporate Finance and HR systems

Desirable criteria

1.      Self-management and ability to work independently to meet deadlines

2.      Attention to detail and working to a high-level of accuracy 

3.      Have a professional attitude to work and when dealing with others

4.      Experience of a customer service environment
