Within Digital Solutions, the Data Solutions team plays a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data capabilities and application integrations that serve the entire University.

About the role:

We are seeking a motivated, forward-thinking, and creative Data Solutions Architect to join our high-performing Data Solutions team at King’s College London. This is an exciting time to join us, as we are in the midst of modernising our data platform and transforming how data is integrated, managed, and used across the university.

As a data expert, you will bring broad experience across technologies that store, transform, integrate, and deliver data securely and efficiently. You enjoy thinking strategically about long-term needs while also designing and implementing practical, scalable solutions. Ideally, you will have experience leading or mentoring technical teams and influencing enterprise data design and governance.

Working closely with analysts, developers, engineers, and business stakeholders, you will gather business and functional requirements and translate them into robust data architectures and integration patterns. You will play a key role in enabling the flow of high-quality, secure data between systems and applications, supporting both operational and analytical needs.

You will also evaluate emerging technologies in data, AI, and automation to drive innovation, helping the University remain at the forefront of digital transformation.

This role reports to the Head of Data Solutions and is part of the IT Solutions Directorate, which is committed to delivering innovative, sustainable, and future-ready data platforms that enable King’s to make data-informed decisions and deliver exceptional services.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Proven experience designing and delivering scalable, secure, and maintainable data and application integration solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure integration services (e.g., Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, Azure Functions) in complex enterprise environments. 2.      Strong expertise in solution architecture principles, including data modelling, integration patterns, and reusable component design. 3.      Demonstrable experience working within an Agile or SAFe Agile delivery environment, collaborating closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and development teams. 4.      Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. 5.      Experience establishing and maintaining architectural standards, governance frameworks, and solution review processes. 6.      Track record of mentoring and coaching technical teams to improve architectural understanding and adoption of best practices. 7.      Ability to translate business and functional requirements into robust, future-proof technical solutions aligned with strategic goals. 8.      Proven experience collaborating with enterprise architects, build/delivery leads, and business stakeholders to ensure solution alignment and successful delivery.

Desirable criteria

1.      Azure certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent. 2.      Experience building and maintaining solution architecture asset libraries, including templates, patterns, decision records, and reusable components in an enterprise context. 3.      Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks, ideally applied within Microsoft Azure or similar platforms. 4.      Experience onboarding and supporting development teams, ensuring adherence to standards and rapid integration into delivery workflow. 5.      Familiarity with higher education sector challenges and data landscapes, or experience working in similarly complex, regulated environments.
