About us
This is an opportunity for a dynamic individual with expertise in teaching chemistry at secondary school level to join the School of Education, Communication and Society (ECS) at one of the top 10 UK universities in the world. King’s College London offers an intellectually stimulating environment in which to work, where staff are dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and learning, in the service of society.
The lecturer in Chemistry Education will lead curriculum development, teaching and management on the Chemistry PGCE within the wider Science PGCE team. The successful applicant will join the Centre for Research in Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CRESTEM).
King’s College London has a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, viewing it to be integral to its academic strengths. We particularly welcome candidates who reflect the diverse experiences of the communities we serve.
About the role
As a Lecturer in Chemistry Education, you will play a key role within the PGCE Science team contributing to curriculum development and teaching. Specifically, you will help to lead the Chemistry PGCE programme and deliver chemistry content and skills to students.
The role involves ensuring that the course design and delivery comply with national quality standards and the regulations of the College. You are thus expected to develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and materials that inspire students, and supports their understanding of the teaching profession.
Your responsibilities also include liaising with partnership schools, including mentor development and liaison, and undertaking visits to students on placements in schools across London.
Further, you will review applications and interview prospective candidates, act as Personal Tutor, and ultimately assess students’ competency in the completion of M level assignments.
Working across the wider PGCE team, you will contribute to teacher development within ECS whilst updating your own knowledge and understanding in relevant fields through participating in continuous professional development.
The role includes academic administrative duties (eg programme and module leadership, examinations and admissions) and further tasks and responsibilities which may be reasonably expected given the scope and grading of the post.
Finally, you will be supported in your role by colleagues in the PGCE team and the Centre for Research in Education in Science, Technology and Maths (CRESTEM), and invited to collaborate with academic and professional colleagues on joint projects of shared interest.
This is a part time post (14 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract
