About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Lecturer in Engineering Education to join our department on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP). This fixed-term position focusses on delivering high-quality, research-informed teaching and contributing to the advancement of engineering education within our undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PgT) programmes.
Teaching and Curriculum Development:
- Design, deliver and assess engaging content via lectures, workshops and project-based learning activities, ensuring alignment with industry practices, research and innovative education with responsibilities in the following modules:
- Design (Years 1): support module leads in delivering design thinking, CAD, Arduino programming and prototyping makerspace workshops, and supporting coursework and exam marking
- Mechanics (Year 1) & Automotive (Year 3): lead the delivery and assessment of the labs, including supporting a team of teaching assistant, and supporting coursework and exam marking
Educational Development:
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of student experience through evidence-based teaching practice and innovation
- Support and mentor colleagues including teaching assistants in developing effective and inclusive teaching practices
- Take part in activities to capture student voice and to work with student representatives on improvement activities
Outreach and Community Engagement:
- Represent the department at public events and contribute to widening participation efforts
Collaborative and Administrative Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with academic, technical and professional service staff to ensure effective module delivery
- Participate in departmental committees and working groups
- Support administrative processes related to teaching and assessment

This is a 50% part-time post (20 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until August 31, 2026.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. PhD qualified (or close to completion) in Engineering or a closely related discipline
2. Demonstrated experience in delivering and assessing technical and practical teaching in areas such as mechanics, design and automotive
3. Experience and knowledge of project-based learning and group supervision in engineering or computing disciplines
4. Ability to design and deliver engaging, inclusive teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
5. Experience in marking of coursework and/or examinations at levels 4-7 and providing high quality feedback to students
6. Interest in pedagogic innovation, curriculum development and enhancement of student experience through research-informed best practice in engineering education
7. Commitment to an inclusive learning and working environment working with a range of students and role-holders
Desirable criteria
1. Eligibility for, or awarded, fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)
2. Evidence of educational innovation including development of new tools, resources and methodologies
3. Evidence of excellent student or peer feedback on teaching and learning
4. Experience delivering STEM outreach or widening participation activities
