About Us
King’s College London is an internationally renowned university situated in the heart of London. DNA analysis at King’s sits within the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Science and is a UKAS17025 accredited forensic DNA testing laboratory which also has UK Ministry of Justice accreditation to carry out court-approved DNA tests. The Forensic Genetics and Genomics research groups, led by Professor Syndercombe Court and Dr David Ballard, are at the forefront of forensic DNA research, with both a national and international profile.
About The Role
This role provide scientific services within the DNA analysis at King’s ISO17025 accredited laboratory. Scientific services will be primarily related to DNA testing methods that are employed to clarify kinship relationships between individuals but may also include the application of these methods for criminal casework. The postholder will also provide general health and safety support for the department, which will take up the equivalent of 1 day a week.
This is a full time post, and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31/12/2026.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- BSc in a relevant subject area, e.g. biochemistry, forensic science.
- Experience in molecular biology techniques
- Ability to plan workloads and work to deadlines
- Ability to work in a team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Master’s degree in forensic science
- Knowledge of ISO17025 quality management systems in forensic science
- Experience with forensic DNA casework
- Experience with Health & Safety Management in a laboratory setting
