About us 

Biological Services provide facilities, services, and advice for all research scientists within King's College London who need to carry out research using animals. Such work is ethically reviewed, carefully regulated, and kept to a minimum within the overall objectives of advancing knowledge in biomedical research. Alternatives to research involving animals are always used where possible.   

About the role 

The post holder will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, regulatory compliance, and technical excellence across facilities. This pivotal role supports world-class research by overseeing operational processes, health and safety frameworks, and resource management within Biological Services.

The position acts as a key liaison between facility managers, senior leadership, and regulatory bodies, driving consistency, efficiency, and sustainability across operations. It also champions a Culture of Care, ensuring ethical practices and compliance with Home Office regulations and the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.

This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the future of Biological Services through continuous improvement, mentoring technical teams, and contributing to governance and ethical review processes. The successful candidate will play a critical part in supporting cutting-edge research and advancing operational excellence.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you 

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Experience and knowledge of systems set out in the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and Home Office Code of Practice.

2.      Excellent understanding of the biomedical research environment.

3.      Experience in management of Health & Safety processes with a Biological Services environment.

4.      Significant experience of Biological Services operations and good experience of finance management.

5.      Excellent written and verbal communication skills and competency in the use of databases and software.

6.      A commitment to a Culture of Care.

7.      High level organisational skills.

8.      Have good experience of finance management.

Desirable criteria

1.      Hold a Home Office personal licence.

2.  Hold a first aid.
