About Us
We are seeking applications to join a research team aiming to understand the brain mechanisms of drug action in patients with Generalised Anxiety Disorder using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, electroencephalography and task performance. One research associate position is available. The post-holder will be based in the Department of Neuroimaging.
We work in an active and lively multidisciplinary research environment, and the team members are expected to work closely together and support each other in reaching their objectives.
About the role
This role involves conducting high‑quality research that contributes actively to the Faculty’s wider research strategy, engaging in all stages of the work. This includes recruitment, room/scanner booking, testing, data management, data processing and analysis and reviewing literature. As part of the role you will be expected to liaise with research collaborators to assist with the study conduct and attend training as required. As the project progresses you may be asked to present summaries of study updates (e.g. no. of people screened/recruited/tested, findings) at internal meetings and meetings with external collaborators. Through the research conduct we expect the post-holder to contribute to the internal and external visibility of the department, work as a conscientious and committed member of the team in order to achieve the aims of the project and contribute to publications arising from this project.
The post-holder will be expected to prioritise operational workload, allocate resources and take day-to-day decisions, escalating risks and challenges appropriately.
This is a full time role (35 hours per week) and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 10 months.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- First Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Neuroscience, Psychology, Computing)
- PhD in a relevant discipline *
- Experience and knowledge of conducting functional MRI studies
- Experience and knowledge of conducting clinical or psychometric tests in humans
- Experience and knowledge of project management
- Excellent communication, both verbal and written; service-oriented and ability to work under time pressure
- Organised, detail-driven, able to manage competing deadlines and solve problems pragmatically
* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to solve problems independently as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Proficiency in use of univariate statistical packages (e.g. R, SPSS) and awareness of scripting/coding (e.g. shell-scripting, Matlab)
