12 King's alumni celebrated in the Queen's 2022 New Year Honours List

Alumni create seismic change in fields such as theatre and British foreign policy.

The Queen’s 2022 New Year Honours list boasts 12 King’s alumni for their contributions in areas such as political and public service; diversity and inclusion; and services to the development of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Alumni recognised include Isabelle Parasram (Law, 1994), who was awarded an OBE for Political and Public Service. Isabelle is an activist and a proponent for social justice issues. Isabelle now works as Chief Executive Officer for the professional organisation Social Value UK.

Professor Peter Openshaw (Medicine, 1979) was awarded a CBE for services to Medicine and Immunology. Currently, Professor Peter is a member of the Government’s New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (NERVTAG).

The full list of alumni honoured are:

  • Victoria Cochrane (Msc Advanced Practice, 2016) was awarded an MBE for services to Midwifery.
  • Luke Collet-Fenson (Medical Ethics and Law, 2016) was awarded an MBE for Public Service during Covid-19.
  • Daniel Edge (War Studies Non-Award, 2012) was awarded an MBE for services to British foreign policy.
  • Akthar Hussain (Mechatronics, 2006) was awarded a BEM for services to Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Sean Marett (Biochemistry, 1986) was awarded a CMG for services to development of the Covid-19 vaccine.
  • Nicholas Marsh (Fingerprint Expertise & Scene of Crime Examination, 2004) was awarded an MBE for services to Policing.
  • Professor Peter Openshaw (Medicine, 1979) was awarded a CBE for services to Medicine and Immunology.
  • Dr Dean Pallant (PhD Theology & Ministry, 2011) was awarded an MBE for services to the community.
  • Isabelle Parasram (Law, 1994) was awarded an OBE for Political and Public Service.
  • Dr Russell Rook (Systematic Theology, 2000) was awarded an OBE for services to Social Action.
  • Julian Sturdy-Morton (Theology, 1975) was awarded a BEM for services to the community in Hammersmith.
