The competition invites students to submit an original piece of writing in French on the following topic:

Dans le discours républicain français, l’universalisme porté par la devise « liberté, égalité, fraternité » joue contre la reconnaissance et l’acceptation de la différence dans la France actuelle. Dans quelle mesure pensez-vous que cette affirmation soit vraie?

Format

Entries should be 400-500 words in length and written in French. The topic may be addressed from any angle; your submission may take the form of an academic essay, or you may choose another creative form. You may illustrate your text with drawings or photos. Entries will be judged on the basis of both language and content.

Prizes

Each participant will be invited to a workshop and prize-giving ceremony at King’s College London in March 2024.

The author of the winning entry will receive a gift voucher and will have their submission published in the 14th edition of Des Nouvelles, Héloïse?, the French-language magazine produced by students at King's College London, in Spring 2024.

How to Enter:

Entries should be typed as a Word or PDF document and submitted by e-mail, with ‘Concours 2023-24’ in the subject line, to kclfrenchnewsletter@gmail.com. Please include your name, the name of your school and your school year/class.

The deadline for the receipt of entries is 20th February 2024.
