The King’s College London Symphony Orchestra is the flagship ensemble of the Music Department at King's College London, and over the past 15 years it has grown both in size and stature to make its mark on the capital’s music scene, emerging as one of the best student-led orchestras in the UK and attracting members from a variety of institutions across London as well as King’s College London itself. Based in the heart of Central London, the opportunity to perform in a variety of the capital’s historic and beautiful venues and make music alongside extremely talented student musicians has continued to inspire our members.
Entry to the orchestra is by audition only, and applicants should be of Grade 8 standard or above. KCLSO is open to all students studying at King’s College London or students studying at other London-based universities/ conservatoires. We rehearse on Thursday evenings during term time from 18.30- 21.00 at the Strand Campus. We perform in four concerts plus an annual international summer tour. Members have the opportunity to enter the concerto competition and/or the assistant conductor competition. To maintain the basic running of the orchestra, there is a small subscription fee of £35.
The audition will be no longer than 15 minutes and will consist of a performance of a prepared piece (5 minutes maximum), an orchestral excerpt and some sight reading. Don't worry about an accompanist for your audition.
The auditions will take place on 28 September - 29 September 2019.
Deadline for applications will be 17.00 on 25 September 2019.
We warmly invite you to join our thriving and diverse community. Aside from the weekly rehearsals, orchestra members also participate in different social activities organised by the orchestra which include post-rehearsals drinks at the student union bar and concert trips.
