Over the last few years our Summer Schools have brought together a wide range of researchers who share an interest in building and consolidating their digital research development skills. The events have been a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and to share expertise and knowledge. We focus on fundamental principles of software development as well as looking in more detail at specific computing skills, with the aim of providing a solid grounding in theory and an appreciation of the career landscape.

Applications open for Digital Humanities & Research Software Engineering Summer School
The DH & RSE Summer School returns for another year, and applications are open until 14 April.

The Summer School 2026, hosted at The University of Manchester from 29 June to 2 July, is a four-day intensive that combines talks and practical activities to explore how the intersection of digital humanities and software engineering is shaped across different UK institutions.
This year's event is co-organised by the Software Sustainability Institute, King’s Digital Lab, Centre for Data, Culture & Society, and Cambridge Digital Humanities, in collaboration with the Digital Skills in Arts and Humanities project and Manchester IT.
Participants will gain insight into the roles and practices of Research Software Engineering in Digital Humanities research. Applications are welcome from postgraduate students with a research focus, researchers, academics, curators, technical professionals and similar roles in education, research and cultural heritage collections. A background in computer science is not a necessary requirement, but experience in coding is essential.
Thanks to the support of Strategic Technical Platform for University Technical Professionals, a limited number of bursaries is available for participants who would otherwise not be able to attend.
The deadline for applying is 14 April 2026. FIND OUT MORE AND APPLY HERE.
