Brand new space for ECS PhD students unveiled in Waterloo Bridge Wing
The new space was officially unveiled on 17 April 2025 following five years of development.

Last week, doors were officially opened to the new space for PGR students undergoing a PhD within the School of Education, Communication and Society (ECS).
The new space covers the fifth floor of Waterloo Bridge Wing and provides a dedicated multi-functional space for doctoral students to study and socialise, improving considerably from the previous space.
Across the floor there are a range of quiet and collaborative study spaces, meeting rooms, a fully functional kitchen and lunch space, as well as a social space.
Angela Casey, Technical Manager at ECS, led the refurbishment project, with input from academics and students. Adam Lee and Fiona Nwaobi from Estates and Facilities arranged and advised on the furniture choices, and Richard Foster oversaw fabric work.
Since the official launch on 17 April, the space is now in full use by doctoral students and has received glowing feedback.
