On 19 April, King's Business School invited the Chief Economist of the Bank of England, Andy Haldane, to help launch the Data Analytics for Finance and Macro (DAFM) Research Centre.

Led by Professors Giorgios Chortareas and George Kapetanios, the event was attended by practitioners across business, academia and policymaking. The DAFM Research Centre is dedicated to financial and econometric data analysis to help address some of the most interesting issues in big data, such as the music we listen to on platforms like Spotify when gauging the impact of things like interest rate rises.

“I believe that the application of the data analysis techniques are crucial to many of the most pressing questions” said Haldane. “economics and finance needs to continue its investment in these techniques and it very much includes the work here at DAFM”.

The launch was a huge success, with subsequent coverage on BBC Radio 4 and The Times.
