On Friday 17th May 2019, over 103 former students from 50 countries returned to the Joint Services Command and Staff College at the Defence Academy of the UK to graduate with their Master of Arts (MA) or Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) degrees in Defence Studies.

Special congratulations go to the winner of the Sir Michael Howard Prize for best overall academic performance, Lt Col Lloyd Pritchard and Brig Al-Marri who received a Masters by Research (MRes) in Defence Studies from our strategic partnership with the Joann Bin Jassim Joint Services and Command College in Qatar.

Family, friends and military personnel gathered in the Cormorant Hall to watch the graduation which was led by Dr Robert Foley, Dean of Academic Studies and Maj Gen Andrew Roe, Commandant of the JSCSC. Each award was conferred by The Rt Hon the Lord Geidt, Chair of the Council and Professor Evelyn Welch, Provost and Senior Vice-President (Arts & Sciences). They were joined on stage by Professor Frans Berkhout, Executive Dean of the Faculty and Professor Nicola Phillips, Vice-President and Vice-Principal (Education).

The ceremony was followed by a food and drink reception with entertainment and music where students had the opportunity to collect their certificates.

It's a very special day in the calendar where we welcome back our students who were with us last year, studying for their Masters in Defence Studies. It's a day that they come and celebrate their graduation and all that they've achieved, as well as collect their awards. I'd like to say congratulations to the 231 graduates, particularly the 91 International Students so congratulations to all and good luck for the future.
