Dr Helen Brookman new Director of Liberal Arts

Dr Helen Brookman has been announced as the new Director of the Liberal Arts programme and as Pro-Vice-Dean (Innovation in Education) in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

We are pleased to announce that Dr Helen Brookman is joining us as the new Director of Liberal Arts, and as Pro-Vice-Dean (Innovation in Education) in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

Dr Brookman read English at Oxford before completing a PhD at Corpus Christi, Cambridge, as a member of the Cambridge Victorian Studies Group working on the Leverhulme-funded project ‘Past versus Present: Abandoning the Past in an Age of Progress’. Here she applied her training in medieval studies to a thesis discussing the place of female scholars in translating and editing medieval English literature in the nineteenth century.

She has taught at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and joins us from University College London, where she was a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning. She has published both in her own academic field and on pedagogy in Higher Education, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

"Dr Brookman brings to the Faculty precisely the range of expertise which we sought in the successful candidate for this position," says Professor Russell Goulbourne, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, "we look forward to welcoming her to the Faculty."
