Future focus for workshop hosted by King's student
A workshop organised by a King’s student took attendees on a journey into the future.

Julian Boellhoff hosted a Future Hackathon which featured roundtable work, talks from guest speakers and panel discussions, and brought together a group of students from across the School of Politics and Economics.
The idea for the workshop was borne out of the United Nations Futures Literacy concept which is designed to alleviate fear of the future and create a sense of commitment and support for shared principles.
Attendees at the workshop, which took place at King’s in August, were introduced to and trained in Futures Literacy, in the hope they would be able to appreciate that there is not one future, but many possible futures.
The event was supported by the SPE Opportunity Fund which provides students and staff in the school with the chance to secure funding for an idea or initiative designed to improve the school community.
Julian, a postgraduate student studying with the Department of European and International Studies, said: “The event went really well, we conducted a half-day workshop on two topics: the futures of AI and the futures of education.
“In interactive formats, we were discussing probable, desired and reframed futures scenarios. The outcome was both optimistic and pessimistic but, the bottom line is, we saw that there is a multitude of different possible futures we can take ownership for.”
