The launch event on Monday 11 June built upon the #BehindEveryGreatCity Inclusivity Tech campaign launched by the Mayor earlier this year. In a showcase of the tech and innovation talent that is set to create a bright future for the city, King’s Computer Science alumnus Timur Mamedov presented VEED, the AI-powered video platform he co-founded with support from the King’s Entrepreneurship Institute.

A range of high level tech speakers, including Stemettes co-founder Anne-Marie Imafidon and CEO of Microsoft UK Cindy Rose, highlighted that achievement in tech should not be limited by gender, race, sexuality, religion, disability or background.

Among the contributors on stage was Fatima Benkhaled, currently in her second year of an Electronic Engineering with Management degree at King’s. Fatima was interviewed by Unruly co-founder Sarah Wood about her experience as a woman in tech and a recipient of an Amazon Women in Innovation Bursary.

The week was formally launched at the close of the event by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, on the day he published his vision to make London the world's smartest city.
