Professor Jeroen Gunning was invited by the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security in February to provide an analysis of the causes behind Hamas’s 7 October attacks, the effects of Israel’s war on Gaza on Hamas, and how both might affect the Netherlands.

Jeroen, a professor of Middle Eastern Politics and Conflict Studies, addressed civil servants from across the Dutch government.

Prof Gunning will also meet this week with officials from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to discuss a report he co-authored on Hamas for the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.

Among a series of scholarly works on Hamas, Prof Gunning is the author of Hamas in Politics: Democracy, Religion, Violence.
