King's History Department demonstrates impact and research excellence

The History Department has been ranked 3rd in the country for research power in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) results out today.

The Department of History, one of the largest in the UK, has had 86 per cent of its research rated either ‘world leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*) in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2021).

The REF is carried out approximately every six-seven years to assess the quality of research across UK universities, show the quality and output of research on a domestic and global stage and show the impact research has on the academic environment and our society – highlighting its real-world benefits.

The unit of assessment 28 (History) submitted 84 fte (87 individuals) to REF 2021 from a wide variety of departments, including History, Defence Studies, War Studies, Political Economy and Psychological Medicine.
