King's Physicist on the power of lasers at the Royal Institution

Dr Amelle Zaïr, Lecturer in Advanced Photonics at King’s Department of Physics, will be delivering a lecture on “Extreme light: the power of lasers”.

Amelle’s lecture at the Royal Institution will explore the world of ultra-fast, ultra-powerful lasers, and the radical discoveries that have been found through this area of research.

At King’s, Amelle’s research at King’s focuses on ultrafast laser sciences and attosecond physics – a branch of physics which focuses on light-matter interactions that occur in attoseconds (a quintillionth of a second). She is a member of King’s Photonics & Nanotechnology group, whose research expertise specialises in the development and applications of advanced photonic technologies and novel nanomaterials to address modern challenges in photonic and quantum technologies, new nanostructured materials, sensing, imaging and clean energy.

The event will be held both in-person and online on Monday 9 May 2022, find out more on the Royal Institution’s website.
