King’s College London holds steady its position as the 9th top university for dentistry according to the 2023 instalment of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, indeed the only University from the UK to feature in the top 10.

The QS World University rankings by Subject is an extensive overview of international higher education performance, by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

As the top British University for dentistry, the data provides students, policymakers, academic administrators, faculty, and employers with insight into institutional performance.

It is pleasing to see the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences retain their top ten position in the latest QS World rankings by subject. This reflects the strength of our research and education programmes, and our collective effort in ensuring we are the leading University for dentistry in the UK.

The methodology is comprised of an overall score and four key indicators: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations Per Paper and H-Index (the average productivity/impact per scholar).

The individual scores for the indicators are as follows:

  • Academic Reputation 73.6
  • Employer Reputation 75.8
  • Citations per paper 80.7
  • H Index 85.6

These results show the strength of our research, also mirrored in the latest REF results. However, we must remember these rankings are limited to research in the subject of dentistry, while our research goes further; from dental and oral to the craniofacial sciences.
