King's Smile Society create oral health videos for LEAP Lambeth
In Lambeth, a community with moderate to high oral health needs and high rates of hospital admissions for paediatric extractions, King’s College London staff and students carried out a dental public health project with members of Lambeth Early Action Partnership Scheme (LEAP). They aimed to gain an understanding of the knowledge of oral health within the community via focus group discussions with 41 parents and champions.
From these groups, a clear need for oral health information to be provided in the form of videos was identified and King’s College London’s undergraduate Smile Society responded to the challenge. They have created 4 videos on different oral health domains: Fissure Sealants, Fluoride Varnish, Diet and Tooth Brushing. With ongoing feedback from the focus groups, the videos have been enhanced and are available on YouTube.
