King's students win Best Public Speakers Award at the 16th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition

Congratulations to the team of students from The Dickson Poon School of Law.

The Dickson Poon School of Law

The 2021 team - comprised of Param Sharda, Ahad Mahmood, Kareena Vora, Vansh Arora and coached by Abraham Brown - competed against Bucerius Law School, Vietnam National University, The University of Auckland, and Rutgers Law School at the International Chamber of Commerce’s (ICC) annual event.

Team Leader, Param Sharda, said, "We were ecstatic to hear that we won the Best Public Speakers Award as only one team out of 48 globally! The ICC International Mediation Competition has been a highlight of my time at King’s because it equipped me with the vital skill of principled negotiation, and it was incredibly fun.”

He continued, “I would like to thank Coco Choi and the Pro Bono Society for helping me to get the ball rolling at the start, and Abraham Brown for not only agreeing to coach us, but for dedicating so much time and passion and for equipping us with incredibly useful skills.”

Now in its 16th year, the ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition sees university teams compete in mock mediation sessions supported by over 100 professional mediators and mediation trainers from around the world.

Competitors negotiate in client-counsel pairs and are assessed on the consistency of their confidential briefs, extraction of interests, collaborative skills, creative option building, mediation advocacy, and teamwork.

I would love to see King’s represented in the years to come and I would be more than happy to come back and help out teams with their training.
