Margaret Butterworth Care Home Forum – June meeting

Personal Interventions in Care Homes

The second MBCHF of the year featured speakers Sue Woodward and Sangeeta Sooriah discussing ‘Prevention and Treatment of Incontinence Associated Dermatitis (IAD) through optimising care’, and Katy Kerr talking about ‘Oral Health for People Living with Dementia’. There were 65 attendees at this very engaging and practice-oriented webinar.

IAD has been put on the map. However, there is still a lack of guidance and awareness on such issues in care homes. There is a similar situation in oral health: a lack of awareness and knowledge is evident around oral care for people living in care homes. The presenters shared knowledge and practical tips, and this was very well received by the attendees. One attendee said, “This has been absolutely brilliant, and I wish I invited more of my team members”. Many others asked for the presenters to share the toolkits and education resources that were mentioned.

The next MBCHF will be on Wednesday 21 September 2022. We look forward to another engaging session to discuss and learn more about dementia care in communal settings.

MBCHF is a forum for discussion and learning focused on dementia care in communal settings such as nursing homes, care homes and extra care housing.
