Professor Hunter, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, is an international expert in internet and intellectual property law, artificial intelligence and cognitive science models of law and in legal tech and legal innovation. He will be joining King’s from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) where he has been Dean of Law since November 2019. He is also the Founding Dean of Swinburne Law School, a world class law school with a focus on technology and industry learning, which launched in 2015, and brought in the inaugural Bachelor of Laws (LLB) cohort within three months of accreditation.

Professor Hunter has taught at some of the most prestigious universities across the world, including Cambridge University, Melbourne Law School, New York Law School and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also the founder of the Future Law Podcast, which talks about how law is changing during this time of massive disruption.

His research interest focusses on innovation and technology within law, notably the use of artificial intelligence in sentencing and criminal justice, the legal implications of the blockchain, innovation processes within the legal profession, and the future of legal practice. He has also undertaken a range of cultural histories of intellectual property in the postwar period, including work on LEGO bricks, Barbie dolls, modernist furniture, and the social significance of luxury handbags.
