North Korea continues to improve its nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities in spite of international sanctions, leading many to question the viability of the US policy of ‘maximum pressure’. In this piece for the Council of Foreign Relations, Project Alpha research associate Dr Christopher J. Watterson argues that the international community must hold firm to the policy of forcibly denuclearising North Korea, including through use of sanctions.
