Congratulations to Political Economy student, Laura Darnley, who has been named as a Schwarzman Scholar for 2020.

The Schwarzman Scholars Programme is designed to recognise the world’s best and brightest students and awards them a fully-funded, one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing – one of China’s most prestigious universities.

Laura is one of 140 students chosen from nearly 3,000 applicants making this a fantastic achievement.

Laura was selected in recognition of her leadership experience. Alongside her studies, she trains as an Officer Cadet with the British Army, has contributed to the Government’s review of Youth Justice and worked with international companies to provide career development opportunities for disadvantaged young adults. Laura also captains her corps’ taekwondo team and has medalled in international competition on behalf of the Army. An adventure enthusiast, in 2017 she drove from London to Mongolia and back raising £8,000 for charity.
