Professor Jane Sandall CBE awarded highest accolade by RCM
On 7 March 2019, at the general meeting of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), Professor Jane Sandall CBE was awarded an Honorary Fellowship.
This is the highest accolade the RCM can give and is awarded to those who have made an outstanding contribution, or give outstanding service, to midwifery, maternity services, services for women and their families or to the RCM.
Professor Sandall’s research is interdisciplinary between the clinical and social sciences and addresses a range of fundamental questions regarding maternal health and reproduction including the implementation of policy and new models of care.
Her research on continuity of midwife care informed maternity policy in England and Scotland and the NHS 10 year plan.
Professor Sandall said of the award:
‘I feel very honoured to be awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the RCM. This is the culmination of years of work in maternal health and I am very grateful to all those who have helped me along the way.’
Responding to Professor Sandall’s Fellowship, Gill Walton, CEO of the RCM, tweeted:
‘Wonderful! We are honoured too! Well deserved!’
