Law Commissioners play an influential part in the evolution of the law in England and Wales. Alongside drafting reports, Law Commissioners play an active role in taking legislation through Parliament, meaning they are directly involved in discussions with government ministers, senior officials and Parliamentary Counsel.

Professor Rowan specialises in contract, tort, commercial and comparative law, and joined The Dickson Poon School of Law in 2022 as Chair in Contract Law. She has served as the Vice Dean for Students, Culture & Community, as well as the Director of the LLB in English Law and Master 1 in French Law. She is also a Visiting Professor at Paris-Assas University and an Honorary Professor at the Australian National University. Her work has recently been cited by the Scottish Law Commission, the Court of Appeal of Singapore, and the Court of Appeal of Ireland.

On behalf of all of us at The Dickson Poon School of Law, I wish to extend huge congratulations to Solène on this prestigious appointment. She will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to this role and her appointment is so well-deserved. It is always fantastic to see the expertise of our academic colleagues being recognised and put into practice in the real world.

Professor Dan Hunter, Executive Dean, The Dickson Poon School of Law

The Law Commission has made an outstanding contribution to the modernisation of our laws over the last six decades. It is recognised around the world as setting the benchmark for legal innovation. I am honoured to join such a prestigious institution and to have the opportunity to continue its fine tradition of evidence-based law reform. I look forward to working as part of the team to maintain the pre-eminent status of English commercial law and to develop the common law in the interests of all segments of our society.
