School of Politics and Economics launches annual awards

The School of Politics & Economics has launched an annual awards ceremony to celebrate outstanding students, academics, and professional services staff…and nominations are now open!

Nominations are open until 25 February.

As well as amazing people from across the school, the inaugural awards will also be recognising brilliant research, extra-curricular activity and contribution to the school community.

Professor Peter John, head of the School of Politics & Economics, said: “So many of our students and staff have made truly outstanding contributions to the life of the school over the last year so we are delighted to be celebrating their achievements with our first awards ceremony.

“I would encourage you all to submit a nomination and help make sure we recognise everyone who is working hard to make the school a fantastic place to be. These awards are a tribute to all staff who have worked so hard in the last two years and I’m looking forward to reading through all the submissions.”

A full list of award categories can be found here. Nominations are open now and the deadline is 5pm on Friday 25 February. The awards ceremony will be taking place in-person at King’s on Monday 28

March, with prizes on offer for all winners.

THE CATEGORIES

STUDENT AWARD 2021-22 Nominated by staff

This award is given to a student who has delivered both academically and through extracurricular activities. Has a student stood out in seminars or lectures? Brought their interests to life in an essay? Has a student contributed to the life of the department? Nominate them for the Student Award!

ACADEMIC STAFF AWARD 2021-22 Nominated by students

This award is given to a staff member who has continuously supported students throughout the year and gone above and beyond in their role.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES STAFF AWARD 2021-22 Nominated by students or staff

This award is given to a professional services staff member who has shown unwavering dedication and support for academic col leagues and students over the course of the year.

Professional services encompasses staff members who are part of the Education Team (Education Manager, UG/PG Managers, Senior Programme Officers, Programme Officers), the Business Support Team (Business Support Manager, Senior Business Support Officer, Business Support Officers), Research team (Research manager) and Student Engagement and Communications (Student Engagement Manager, Student Engagement Officer, Communications Officer) and Head of Administration

STUDENT COMMUNITY AWARD Nominated by students

This award is given to a student who has supported their peers throughout the academic year. Has your classmate supported others during seminars or in study groups? Has your Peer Mentor gone above and beyond in supporting you in your transition to university ? This award is for a friend or classmate who you couldn’t have completed this year without!

PGR STUDENT AWARD 2021-22 Nominated by staff

This award is given to the PGR student who has shown research excellence and impact whether through their work or the support of the SPE community.

GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT (GTA) AWARD Nominated by staff and students

This award is given to a Graduate Teaching Assistant who has made a significant difference to the learning and wellbeing of the student community.

OUTSTANDING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT OF THE YEAR Nominated by students and staff

This award celebrates the outstanding student whose meritorious activities have made a significant and lasting impact. This is not limited to academic achievement, this award can include social , charitable or entrepreneurial achievements.

RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENT Nominated by students and staff

This award celebrates the outstanding research, project or academic initiative of a student or staff member.
