Chair of the Committee, Norman Lamb MP, was joined by fellow members Vicky Ford MP, Bill Grant MP, Carol Monaghan MP and Stephen Metcalfe MP.

Hosted by Professor Divaka Perera, a BHF-funded Professor within the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences and Consultant Cardiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, members of the Committee met with researchers working across a range of disciplines to see how they are using ground-breaking techniques and technologies in imaging and scanning, computer modelling and statistical analysis in their work to better understand and treat heart and circulatory disease.

They also visited the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Clinical Research Facility (CRF), which provides dedicated facilities and staff to support the NHS and universities to undertake experimental medicine research.

“We are delighted that members of the Commons Science and Technology Committee were able to join BHF Professors and researchers today to see first-hand their life saving research, and find out about its impact on patients affected by heart and circulatory conditions”.

Simon Gillespie, Chief Executive of the British Heart Foundation

The visit coincided with the Committee’s announcement earlier on Wednesday that it would launch an inquiry into an immigration system that works for science and innovation in the UK.
