SPLAS Lector Daniela Mittelstadt wins a King's Education Award
Daniela Mittelstadt, Lector in Brazilian Portuguese Language is awarded the Expanding Opportunities title at the King’s Education Awards 2019.
Daniela Mittelstadt, Lector in the Department of Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies, is one of the 21 recipients of this year's King's Education Awards.
The King's Education Awards is a student-led awards process which recognises and celebrates the outstanding teaching at King's College London. The awards have been running since 2002, and now have over 200 winners from the thousands of nominations received over the past 16 years.
Daniela triumphed in the Expanding Opportunities category which recognises those who encourage co-curricular opportunities through exciting and engaging initiatives such as internships, employment skills and through involvement in improving the curriculum.
Commenting on her win, Daniela said: "I was extremely honoured to hear the news that I received such an important award. I believe it reflects the benefits and successes of the partnership between the Embassy of Brazil in London and the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, which will hopefully continue to grow stronger. I am especially pleased this award reflects the views and values of the student body. Exploring new languages and cultures is essential for a more understanding and accepting society and students across the university are aware of this. I am incredibly grateful to them for being once again such a wonderful source of inspiration. Muito obrigada!"
As a lector in Brazilian Portuguese, Daniela has been teaching undergraduate students at King's since 2016. She coordinates the application of the Exam of Proficiency in Portuguese Language for Speakers of Other Languages (Celpe-Bras) in the UK and organises different events to promote Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language as spoken in Brazil.

An awards presentation will take place on 20 June 2019 following the Excellence in Teaching conference where winners and guests will celebrate together.
