The King’s College London summer programmes in India were created by Dr Alexander Heinz, Education Lead of King’s Summer Programmes. He was awarded the King’s Excellence Award 2013 for the Most Significant Contribution to International Collaboration for the India programmes.

Over the years the programmes have given hundreds of talented and ambitious students the opportunity to experience a world-class education closer to home. Launched in 2012, the sector-leading programmes emphasised academic quality, innovative teaching methods and interactive, student-centred learning. Each module was taught in India by a King’s academic flown out for that purpose. Classes were intensive, fully assessed and designed to equip students with globally relevant research and study skills.

We partnered with prestigious organisations in India such as H.R. College of Commerce & Economics, University of Mumbai; St. John's Research Institute; Unilever R&D Centre in Bangalore; Miranda House, University of Delhi and Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi to host these programmes in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. We also worked with a number of private companies over the years who provided ground support for delivery of the programmes and in-country administrative support for our King’s academics.

"My experience of teaching in India has been one of personal and professional growth. Having had prior reservations, I now find myself in a position where I can't imagine not returning to teach in this beautiful country. I have been fascinated by the culture and history of India, but even more so, I have enormous admiration for the society of this exciting, flourishing, buzzing, and inquisitive nation. I have been thrilled by my students’ zest for knowledge, pursuit of cross-cultural links and engagement with topical political and institutional debates. I also find that year after year, more and more of the young people taking my courses go on to study law as a full-time degree."

Dr Diana Bozhilova, King’s Summer Programmes Teaching Fellow

All intellectual property relating to the academic content of these courses and the wider programming originated in King’s academic community. We designed and delivered several courses, at both pre-university and undergraduate level, spanning subject areas such as health, social sciences, business management and humanities including:

  • Advanced Concepts of Infections & Immunity

  • Diet and Ageing in Health and Disease

  • International Political Economy

  • International Relations: Theory & Practice

  • Marketing Management

  • Media, Gender & Culture

  • The Entrepreneur: Skills & Smart Thinking

Every year, tuition fee scholarships were offered to the best and brightest students to join the King’s Undergraduate Summer School in London the following summer.

"Lectures held my attention and were very engrossing. I think the course has been very helpful in increasing my knowledge of not only theories of International Relations but also the background of it."

Vishakha Wadhwani, Jai Hind College, University of Mumbai
