Dr Brooke Rogers and her team in the Department of War Studies conduct research and advise governments globally on communication and training strategies, with the ultimate aim of keeping people and nations safe.
Assumptions of public panic during extreme events are a myth but this assumption often makes organisations wary of public communication about risks and threats.
Understanding the most effective ways for governments and emergency organisations to communicate in crisis situations is key for influencing the response. It has been proven that government interventions, which aim to protect people, depend on the cooperation of the public.
