Sharon Adebola has been selected as a finalist from among thousands of applicants for the Black Heritage Undergraduate of the Year award, which forms part of the Targetjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards.

As part of the nomination process, Sharon, a first-year BA Politics student, had to complete a detailed application, including essay-style questions and bespoke online tests. Once passing that stage, Sharon was invited to a telephone interview and also took part in an assessment centre before learning that she had been selected as a finalist.

The Black Heritage Undergraduate award recognises those who are driving positive change within communities, breaking down barriers, acting as inspiring role models, and excelling academically.

I’m so pleased to have been selected as a finalist for the awards and am looking forward to attending the ceremony. I look forward to continuing to be a driving force of change and influencing and inspiring my peers as well as future King’s students

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 29 April.

Alongside her studies, Sharon is a student ambassador at King’s and also serves as an Aspire mentor.

Sharon, a member of the Department of Political Economy, said: “I’m so pleased to have been selected as a finalist for the awards and am looking forward to attending the ceremony. I look forward to continuing to be a driving force of change and influencing and inspiring my peers as well as future King’s students.”

The targetjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards is a competition open to students across the UK where they can win prizes such as placements, internships and trips abroad. This year there are 12 different awards that cover a range of academic subjects.

A spokesman for the awards said: “It goes without saying that reaching the final is a huge achievement for our student finalists. The awards are an excellent opportunity for universities to showcase the calibre of undergraduates at their institution, while giving their students the chance to secure positions with internationally-recognised organisations.”
